Saltgate
Saltgate grew around the weigh-house where salt was once counted. The lanes are narrow enough that neighbours talk across them, and almost every house hides a courtyard behind a heavy door.
Concept project by Artlogic. Cortelle, the city of Orvane and every home on this site are fictional.
Morning
Bread at Ember & Rye from seven. The weigh-house square fills with stalls on Saturdays.
Light
Courtyards here are small and deep: the sun reaches the paving for about two hours around noon.
Sound
Quiet after nine. Footsteps on stone and a tram bell three streets away.
